Škofja Loka – The Novelty on This Year’s L'Etape Slovenia Route
The municipality of Škofja Loka, a new addition to this year’s L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France, invites you to the 15th cycle of concerts.
One of the novelties of this year’s Sunday challenge of L'Etape Slovenia is that the route starts from Koroška Road in Kranj, continues via the bypass road through Stražišče, and then heads towards Škofja Loka. For the first time, Škofja Loka is marked on the map of the eleven municipalities through which the longer – 150 km, and shorter – 80 km routes pass. We warmly welcome the participation of the Municipality of Škofja Loka and kindly invite you to the XV International Cycle of Concerts 2024.
Safety First
Ensuring safety is one of the key priorities for the organizers of this unforgettable cycling experience in the spirit of the Tour de France. Therefore, this year again, the cycling caravan will follow the support vehicle in a more relaxed, warming-up pace from the start to kilometer 0. Kilometer 0 for all participants is located at 6.6 km in Spodnje Bitnje. This point will be marked on the route with a distinctive sign, and only from this point will the official time be measured until the participants cross the finish line.
Škofja Loka, a Beautiful Medieval Town
The flat part of the route thus leads through Spodnje Bitnje and Žabnica to Stara Loka and Škofja Loka – one of the most beautiful Slovenian medieval towns. Overlooking Škofja Loka is the beautiful Loški Castle from the 13th century, and in the old town center, you can find Mestni and Spodnji trg (and notable buildings such as Kašča, the Church of St. James, the Ursuline Monastery, and the Homan House) as well as the Capuchin Monastery with the manuscript of the Škofja Loka Passion Play, the oldest Slovenian dramatic text.
Cyclists leave Loka and continue towards Godešič, a clustered village situated on a terrace above the left bank of the Sora River, adorned with the Gothic Church of St. Nicholas. Its façade is painted with frescoes by Friulian artists, dating around 1400.
L'Etape Slovenia Route from Škofja Loka Towards the First Mountain Finish
The route then gradually leaves the predominantly flat areas of Škofja Loka, offering wonderful views, and leads the cycling caravan towards the areas of the neighboring municipality of Medvode, followed by the municipalities of Vodice, Komenda, and Kamnik, where in Tunjška Mlaka the first serious challenge awaits – the climb to Šenturška Gora, which marks the first mountain finish.

XV International Cycle of Concerts 2024
With summer approaching, we once again invite all lovers of quality music to the concerts of the International Cycle. This year, it will take place from June 29 to July 15, 2024, in the old town center of Škofja Loka.
In the summer of 2024, the 15th edition of the cycle will offer four top concerts and a diverse musical selection for music connoisseurs. Renowned international performers and quality local ensembles with guests from abroad, as well as world music groups, will perform on stages in the center of Škofja Loka. To top it off, we promise a musical treat from Iceland in the autumn. In case of bad weather, the concerts will be held in the Sokol Hall in Škofja Loka. Admission is free.
