The Municipality of Tržič supports the L'Etape Slovenia event
We are delighted for the 3rd consecutive year of the Municipality of Tržič's participation in the L'Etape Slovenia event.
Once again, this year, the Municipality of Tržič actively supports the organization of the L'Etape Slovenia by Tour de France event. It is planned that the caravan of cyclists, who will embark on a longer route (Race) of approximately 150 km on Sunday, September 8, 2024, will cycle through more locations in the Municipality of Tržič than ever before.
Via "under the mountains" to Tržič
One of this year's novelties is a section of the route that takes cyclists along the exceptionally picturesque road "under the mountains," from Begunje towards Tržič. After a short climb of the 4th category from Zapuž to Slatna, the road is just high enough above the valley and carved into the foothills of Dobrča, where the views open far and wide once again, hence some refer to this road as the Gorenjski Balkon (the balcony of Gorenjska). At this point, the route enters the areas of the Municipality of Tržič and continues towards Bistrica pri Tržiču, passing through Križe and leaving the areas of the Municipality of Tržič at approximately 130 km.
Tržič is not only a unique tourist gem that enchants with numerous excursion ideas, the real Luxury of Paths: from natural, mountainous to cycling, but in whiter winters it also thrills with ski touring and sledding, and a mandatory visit to the Dovžan Gorge. It is also an exceptionally lively destination with numerous traditional events.
On Monday, March 11, 2024, the Municipality of Tržič invites you to "Vuč u vodo" (light into the water) with the event kicking off with the opening of the exhibition "Life flows," when the Gregorčki swim in the water.
The Tržič tradition "Vuč u vodo" undoubtedly ranks among the most beautiful and eagerly anticipated events of the calendar year. The tradition is revived on March 11, on the eve of St. Gregory's Day. It is a centuries old Tržič custom that used to live among local shoemakers. On this day, they stopped working by candlelight in their workshops.
The delay of this year's L'Etape Slovenia to the first "completely" September weekend also allows all those who traditionally enjoy participating in Šuštarska nedelja (Shoemaker's Sunday) in Tržič (the first Sunday in September) to attend both events. No excuses 😊. Therefore, this year, the dates do not overlap.
